Template: ask someone to retract an IP complaint against your listing
A short, factual message asking a rights owner to withdraw a mistaken intellectual property report on Etsy, eBay VeRO or Amazon.
Etsy, eBay (VeRO) and Amazon all point sellers back to the person who reported them. A calm message with evidence is often the fastest way to get a mistaken report withdrawn.
Template
Subject: Request to retract IP report on [PLATFORM] listing [LISTING ID OR TITLE] Hello [NAME OR COMPANY], [PLATFORM] removed my listing "[LISTING TITLE]" ([LISTING URL]) after a report from you on [DATE], reference [REFERENCE NUMBER, IF ANY]. I believe this report was made in error. I designed and made this item myself: - My original photographs were taken on [DATE] (camera files available). - The listing was first published on [DATE]. - [ANY OTHER EVIDENCE — process photos, design files, archive snapshot link.] I'm happy to share these files with you. Could you please withdraw the report with [PLATFORM]? [Etsy: by replying to Etsy's IP team / eBay: by emailing VeRO / Amazon: through the retraction process in your complaint.] Thank you, [YOUR NAME] [SHOP NAME] · [EMAIL]
Tips
- Keep it short and factual. Don't accuse the reporter even if you suspect a copycat — the goal is a retraction.
- If there's no reply within a week, follow the platform's appeal or counter-notice route.
- Platform specifics: Etsy IP removals, eBay VeRO, Amazon Handmade.
Questions
- What if the reporter is the one copying me?
- Still send a factual retraction request, and keep the evidence for a counter notice (for copyright) or a platform appeal if they refuse.
