Temu or AliExpress copied my product — what actually works

How handmade sellers get copied listings removed from Temu, AliExpress and Alibaba: the reporting portals, what evidence they ask for, and how to handle relists.

Updated 2026-10-26 · Markdown

Factory copies on Temu, AliExpress and Alibaba are the most common reason makers start protecting their work — and the most common trigger for Etsy flagging the original. The good news: these platforms do remove listings when the notice is complete.

AliExpress and Alibaba: the IPP portal

Both use the Alibaba Group Intellectual Property Protection platform at ipp.alibabagroup.com.

  1. Register once as a rights holder. For copyright in photos, you upload proof of ownership — original files and your listing showing the earlier date work well.
  2. File a complaint per listing with the infringing URL and the original work it copies.
  3. Keep the case number. You can track status in the portal.

Temu

Temu has its own intellectual property complaint process, linked from the footer of its site. Provide the product URL, your original listing URL, and a statement that you own the photograph. See how to report a copy on Temu.

What evidence they look for

  • The original photo, ideally the full-resolution file.
  • Your listing URL and its date.
  • The infringing listing URL(s) — one per complaint.
  • Your contact details and the required statements (see the DMCA template).

Handling relists

Factory sellers often relist the same item under a new ID. Practical habits:

  • Re-check reported URLs weekly.
  • Search your photo again a week after a removal.
  • When reporting a relist, mention the original complaint number.

Why it matters for your Etsy shop

Every copy of your photo on a mass-market site makes your own listing look more like a resold item to automated checks. Removing copies isn't only about lost sales — it reduces the chance of an Etsy removal. If a removal has already happened, start with what to do after a Creativity Standards removal.

Questions

Do Chinese marketplaces respond to takedown notices?
Yes. AliExpress and Alibaba use the Alibaba Group Intellectual Property Protection (IPP) platform, and Temu has its own IP complaint process. They ask for proof of ownership and the exact listing URLs.
Should I write the notice in Chinese?
English is accepted, but adding a Chinese version can help when a notice is reviewed or forwarded to the seller. MakerSentry can generate notices in Chinese for these platforms.
Why do copies come back after removal?
Large sellers relist under new IDs or new store names. Keep your evidence file and report repeats promptly, mentioning that it's a repeat infringement.
